Women and Environment Organization

Welcome

Women and the Environment Organization (WATEO) is a non-profit, non-partisan, independent organization established by Iraqi academics on June 5, 2005 (coinciding with International Environment Day). WATEO seeks to raise awareness of environmental and social issues with a special emphasis on women’s interests. We recognize the need to educate women about their role in managing environmental resources to achieve sustainable development. WATEO pledges to empower women to achieve positive environmental change in their families and societies.

Mission

To educate and increase the capability of men and women in the Middle East region, in their roles and responsibilities in securing their own communities, through resource management, and capacity building programs. These objectives will be reached through lectures, studies, workshops, seminars, publications, and other appropriate means. These means will be targeted through community leaders, policy makers, clerics, and tribal leader training, TV and radio messages, university workshops, and further research into environmental resources and their management as pertains to women in the community.

Vision

A world where women and men are managing the environmental resources to achieve sustainable development and security.
